ABOUT KATY
As a child, Katy was a history buff. She devoured books like the Little House on the Prairie and the Dear America series, lost in the descriptions of food, nature, and nineteenth-century family life. As she got older, she found that her interest in the lived experiences of past humans–especially the average, non-famous ones–pulled her in different directions academically, with a love for history but also anthropology, sociology, journalism, and politics. Becoming a genealogist was ultimately the perfect way to satisfy these curiosities, and restoring the names and memories of people long gone is an important part of her values system.
In addition to research and consulting, Katy regularly speaks at genealogy conferences across the country and has been featured on national and local television and in print media.
Her own ancestors hail primarily from Germany (all waves!), with a smattering of representation from the British Isles. When not up to her eyeballs in historical records, Katy enjoys all things music, hiking, crossword puzzles, and spending time at the Jersey Shore. She lives in beautiful Berks County, Pennsylvania.
